Carolina Occupational Healthcare can assist in implementing programs designed to promote healthy behaviors that have been proven to lower Healthcare, Disability and Workers Compensation Costs and reduce Absenteeism.
We utilize Health Risk Assessments to identify behaviors that are detrimental to good health and well being, both physically and emotionally.  Then we  target these behaviors to diminish or reverse them, which can result in a healthier more productive lifestyle.

 

This process is called Health Risk Assessment and Risk Reduction.

In addition, we can provide traditional health evaluations including Diagnostic Evaluations with a Physician review of Medical History along with other medical evaluations such as: Vital Statistics, Vision and Hearing Screening, Blood Sample Analysis, Urine Analysis, Resting 12 Lead EKG and Complete Physician Physical Examination.
HRA’S are a scientific statistical analysis of a persons behaviors. Some of the behaviors that affect your health and longevity include smoking, diet, exercise, stress and medical parameters such as blood pressure and cholesterol level. HRA’s identify the behaviors that increase your risk of illness and premature death. These behaviors can then be targeted with the goal of a happier, healthier lifestyle. HRA’s and Risk Reduction have been proven to Lower Costs of Health and Workers Compensation Insurance, to reduce Disability Costs and to Increase Employee Productivity.

There are three parts to the HRA

  • Questionnaire: The questionnaire is an online comprehensive list of questions regarding your lifestyle and behaviors. You can revisit on-line and change your answers and re-calculate your results.
  • Computerized Computation of Risk: The information provided in the questionnaire is computer analyzed and compared with data regarding known statistical outcomes for various risk behaviors.
  • Risk Report: The report identifies which behaviors are associated with increased chances of good health and longevity and which behaviors are not. It aids you in determining which behaviors to changes and identifies how much these changes can affect your health and longevity. This remarkable tool, combined with information from diagnostic evaluations, allows your employee to identify behavior that could increase their risk of illness or premature death.

Diagnostic Evaluations

All of the following medical testing can be performed in various combinations to accommodate your requirements. We perform these services in our medical clinic or on-site at your facility.

Vital Statistics: Height and weight, pulse rate and blood pressure.

Vision Screening: Measurements of Near and Distant Visual Acuity as well as Depth Perception, Phorias and Visual Fields. Testing is done with state of the art Titmus Vision Screeners.

Hearing Screening: Audiometry Screening is done for 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, 6000 and 8000 Hz. Screening can rule out problems and indicate when formal testing with a soundproof booth is required.

Blood Sample Analysis 

  • Chemistry 23 – 23 chemistry blood tests including: Serum Glucose (Diabetes), Kidney Function (BUN and Creatinine) Total Cholesterol, HDL (Good) and LDL (Bad) Cholesterol
  • Electrolytes: Sodium, Potassium and Chloride
  • Minerals: Calcium, Phosphorus, Serum Iron, Uric Acid (Gout), Albumin, Globulin, Alkaline Phosphatase, Bilirubin, Liver Function Enzymes PSA (Prostate), Testing is advised for males over 50
 Urinalysis

Specific Gravity, Ph, Red Blood Cells, Protein, White Blood Cells, Bacteria

Resting 12 Lead EKG Testing

Advised for patients aged 40 and above. Results, along with History and Physical Exam results can determine if more advanced diagnostic testing with Stress EKG or other evaluation is indicated.

Medical History

Each employee completes a thorough questionnaire about Family History, Social History and Past Medical History. All this information is then reviewed with the examining physician.

Complete Physician Medical Examination

  • Eyes, Ears, Nose and Throat.
  • Heart and Lungs
  • Abdomen
  • Neck and Thyroid
  • Extremities, Joints
  • Peripheral Vascular
  • Neurologic
  • Genitourinary (males only)
  • Prostate Exam at age 40 and above if requested

Readiness for Change

Once your employees have completed their Risk Assessment and Diagnostic Evaluation, we can identify which health behaviors can be improved, for example treating high blood pressure or quitting smoking. We then review the data from the employees “Readiness for Change” questionnaire.

Risk Assessment tells us how many employees smoke. Readiness for change tells us how many employees would consider quitting. It is of no benefit to institute a Quit Smoking Program if either:

  • Nobody Smokes or
  • Everybody Smokes, but no one will consider quitting !

Treatment and Risk Reduction

Your employee is encouraged to modify high risk behavior and can monitor their progress with anytime access to their personal Healthpage on our On-Line Health Risk Assessment Programs.

Medical Treatment: Information regarding conditions discovered during evaluation, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol is provided to the employees primary care physician for ongoing follow-up and management.

Risk Reduction Programs: Summary Analysis of employee data can be provided to determine which programs might benefit your company. Educational seminars and lunch break lectures on topics such as:

  • Weight Reduction and Cholesterol Management
